From Hot Mess to Hot Mom on a Budget
Ask just about any mom how she classifies herself, and she’ll quickly answer, “I’m a hot mess!” Personally, I feel like I’m in the middle of a sh!t show on any given day. Which is how MrsMuffinTop’s “The Sh!t Show” was born. New videos will be posted weekly, and for the first month, topics are going to focus on how to go from Hot Mess to Hot Mom, all while on a budget. Looking and feeling good doesn’t need to put you in debt.
Growing up a frugal shopper, things started to change when motherhood came in the picture. Diapers, wipes, mortgage payments (and more) had to come before the cute new diaper bag all the other moms had, even if it was on sale. Then came another baby, and out-of-pocket medical expenses. Getting creative with clothing was difficult and the layer of dust of the sewing machine wasn’t even a layer anymore…inches was more like it. And with two young kids, when would the clothing designer in me have time to make anything, let alone dinner.
Learning how to dress within a budget doesn’t have to translate into looking disheveled, unflattering or uncomfortable. Even if you feel like me, that your life is a total sh!t show, I will show you how to pull off how to go from Hot Mess to Hot Mom. All you have to do is know that you are awesome, you’re rockin’ motherhood, and your inner voice is the most important step in making this transition. You are probably a hot mom, and you just haven’t accepted it yet.

Great post! Love the video! You look fantastic!
Thank you!
I love that white top, so cute! I tried a pair of pants similar to those from Target, but they did not look good on me… I loved them so much, these look awesome on you!
I live in target! I haven’t seen any like this at the one I go to, though. Bummer. Give these a try? They may be better. I hated them when I first got them, but now I wear them a few times a week.
I definitely love the top and the pants are really cute, too. That outfit is nice and I wholeheartedly believe in flowy tops to hide all that extra!
Flowy tops are my jam 🙂
What fun! I can’t wait to see more videos! And… I really need to become more of a frugal shopper!
Oh, you’ll love the next few! I talk about some fun, cheap finds
I’m a middle aged hot Mom and I do accept that! My hubby keeps saying it so I’m going to take his word for it. I’m completely happy with my season in life. There are brighter days ahead.
I love it! All the days are bright. My under eye bags may deceive you, though…
Awwwww Luvs itttt!!! I hate it when people try and blame budgets for not dressing hot! Some of my all time favorite outfits are the cheapest things in my closet!
Me too! I admit that I didn’t for a longgggg time (dress hot), but now that I’m ‘back’ I feel so much better!
Being a mom is definitely the most rewarding yet hard thing in the world. I have become a huge fan of yoga pants and long shirts. For one its cheap and for two its just comfortable. Your outfit is adorable tho. Thanks for sharing.
I’m not kidding. Those pants are better than any pair of yoga pants I’ve ever owned!
I’ve recently realized its all about getting key pieces that work for me. I am working on it. Just purged my closet big time!
I did that last month, too. It’s a great feeling (and I’ve never even read the art of tidying up!).
You look absolutely fantastic and I love the video. These are all awesome finds. I really love the white top and the pants. They look so comfortable. Oh yes, I definitely want to see more videos.
Thank you VERY much! I really appreciate it. Next video comes out on Monday.
Great tips! I just wore a flowy white top yesterday that I think looks really nice but definitely hides the muffin top. I realized I could also wear it the next time I’m pregnant and it should hide the inevitable early baby bump. I actually got that particular top also for $8 at a local thrift store, and it was brand new!
YES! I love that. What part of the country do you live in? I think maternity clothes are a waste…Email me when you have your next baby, I’ll send you a list of stores that have clothes that can work for a baby bump (on a budget, of course!).
It is amazing what a cute outfit can do to your mood. It is so hard to juggle being a mother and a wife — but still finding time for myself. I just have to keep reminding myself that it doesn’t have to be expensive to look good and when I look good, I feel good and then everyone is happy. 🙂
I agree. Personally, I like dressing casually, so I found a way to still do it without looking like I’m in sweats…that way, I’m happy, my credit card bills are low — which means MrMuffinTop is happy, too!
It’s time for me to have a trip in Target i love that store. By the way i love the top and boots also it looks good on you hot momma indeed.
Thank you! and thanks for watching!
You are rockin’ it girl! I love that white top! But honestly how do you wear white around kids?! That shirt would be so dirty with my two toddlers! LOL! I’m not sure I could pull off those pants but they look so good on you! Great job pulling together such a cute outfit.
You’re right. I only just started wearing white again, but I’ll never buy white for the kids.
Love this! I think all moms feel like a hot mess at least some of the time. I know I live in Hot Messville 90% of the time, lol! I definitely need to update my wardrobe. The last tie I did that was when I could no longer deny I was pregnant instead of just fat, lol! And my son is turning 6 this year, so it’s been a while.
Love that white top! I’m a total hot mess all the time!
Ditto…I just learned how to fake it 😉
I love find clothes on a bargain and then you taking the clothes and making them look as they are brand new. I think its important for moms to remember they there individuals too before they became moms and it nice to not lose oneself.
YES! So very true. Thanks for commenting, Dee!
Wait!! You mean I can be a “Hot Mom’s and not just a hot mess?!?! Sign me up!! Cause this mama needs all the help she can get.
I’ll bet that other moms see you and wonder how you’ve got it so together!
I’m loving the outfit! Totally fabulous!
yay, thank you!
Thank you!
I love this look and the basis behind the videos! I agree, I’m usually more in the hot mess category myself but i love how you put this together and it looks so polished and easy. The fact that is looks classy yet comfortable has me sold!
